Norfolk, Va. – Below please find our statement from PETA President Ingrid Newkrik on the passing of Liliane Montevecchi:

Liliane Montevecchi was a grande dame in the truest sense. Glamorous, cosmopolitan, and old school Hollywood, the award-winning singer, actor, and dancer, who died Friday, also helped animals.

Recruited by her partners Kaye Ballard and Lee Roy Reams, Ms. Montevecchi took to the stage to appear in Doin’ It for Love, a joyful celebration of the three stars’ cabaret song-and-dance careers. The trio donated profits from the special event to PETA’s Investigations & Rescue Fund, which plucks thousands of animals a year out of abusive situations.

Liliane’s kindness might best be summed up in a comment she made during an interview just a few years ago: “After all these years, it’s not OK to just do a show. Because you know more, you want to give more.”

Liliane will be missed.
