Harpursville, N.Y. – Below, please find a statement from PETA Foundation Vice President and Deputy General Counsel Delcianna Winders in response to the “birthday bash” thrown at Animal Adventure Park for Tajiri, the giraffe whose birth was live-streamed last year:
This giraffe and his mother don’t care about cake and streamers. They ache for a life in which they can use their long legs to cross great plains and their long necks to see for miles. PETA is asking the public to join in honoring his birthday by donating to a giraffe-protection organization in Africa and is also sending him a symbolic key to freedom—a promise that PETA will stop roadside zoos from breeding baby giraffes for ticket fodder and propping up a menagerie system that has caused great suffering to African wildlife.
