Monmouth County, N.J. – Below, please find a statement from PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman in response to Belmar Mayor Brian Magovern’s plan to kick off the New Jersey Seafood Festival by “pardoning” a lobster this afternoon:
Just as humans do, lobsters feel pain and fear, have unique personalities, and value their own lives. No one wants to be boiled alive, and PETA is calling on people everywhere to pardon all lobsters by keeping them off their plates.
PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat,” and more information is available at PETA.org.
